Account
How do I create an account?
Open the Sign up page and enter your email address, a username (3 to 15 characters: unaccented letters, digits or the underscore) and a password of at least 8 characters, then confirm the password and tick the box that says you are at least 16 and accept the Terms and the Privacy Policy. Either you are signed in right away or, while account confirmation emails are switched on, we first email you a link: open it within 60 minutes and press the button to create the account and sign in. In that case nothing is created until you use the link. If you do not see the email, check your spam folder; if the address already has an account, the email tells you how to sign in or reset the password.
How old do I have to be to play?
You must be at least 16 years old. You confirm it with the checkbox on the Sign up form.
What can I use as a username?
Between 3 and 15 characters: unaccented letters, digits and the underscore. It must be unique (upper and lower case do not count as different) and it is what other players see as “Don <username>”. There is no option to change it later, so choose the name carefully.
How many families can I lead?
One account leads exactly one family.
Can I have more than one account?
The Terms forbid running several accounts in the game to help each other, farm resources, dodge attacks or bypass limits. They also forbid selling, trading or handing over an account. Accounts are personal.
How do I change my email address?
Sign in, open Settings, and use the Email address section: enter the new address and your current password. The address must be valid and not used by another account. We then email your current address: approve the change there (the link lasts 30 minutes), and we send a last link to the new address (60 minutes). The address changes when you open that link, every session is signed out and you sign in with the new address. If the request was not yours, use the “This was not me” link in the message to cancel it.
How do I change my password?
Open Settings and use the Password section: enter your current and your new password (at least 8 characters and different from the old one). We email a confirmation link to the address of your account, valid for 30 minutes; the password changes only after you open it and confirm. Then every session is signed out and you sign in with the new password. If the request was not yours, use the “This was not me” link in the message to cancel it. Passwords that appear in known data breaches are refused.
I forgot my password. What can I do?
Open the Sign in page and choose “Forgot your password?”, then enter the email address of your account. If an account exists for it, we email you a link that is valid for 60 minutes and works once. Open it, choose a new password and sign in. All your other sessions are signed out and we send a notice that the password changed.
I did not receive the reset email. What now?
The page always says the same thing, whether or not the address has an account, so check that you typed the address you registered with. Look in your spam or junk folder and wait a few minutes. You can ask again after one minute, but only a few links per hour are sent for the same address. If nothing arrives, open a support ticket in the Account category.
The reset link says it is invalid or expired. What can I do?
A link works for 60 minutes and only once, and a newer link replaces the older ones. Request a new one from the Sign in page and use the most recent email. If it keeps failing, open a support ticket in the Account category.
Why can I not sign in?
Sign in with your username or your email address plus your password. After 5 failed attempts in 15 minutes, sign-in is paused for a short while: wait a few minutes and try again. A session lasts at most 30 days, and changing your password signs out your other sessions. If you forgot the password, use “Forgot your password?” on the Sign in page.
How do I set an avatar?
Open Settings and use the Avatar section. Choose or drop a JPEG, PNG or WebP image of up to 2 MB and at least 64 × 64 pixels, check the preview and save. You can remove it at any time. The avatar is set only on the website and follows you into the game.
What can other players see about me?
Your public page at /u/<username> shows your avatar, username, “Member since” date and your family with its crest, name and power. It never shows your email address, active play time or coordinates.
What happens if I stop playing?
A family that nobody has entered for 365 days is deleted. We email you warnings after 300, 335 and 358 days, and entering the game at any time keeps your family. Your account stays active: your gold, your extra queue places and the titles and decorations you bought are kept and given back when you found a new family. Buildings, research, resources, army, rackets and syndicate membership are lost.
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings and use the Danger zone: enter your password and type your username to confirm. The deletion is permanent: your profile and your family disappear from the game immediately. Some chat messages and battle reports already delivered to other players can remain, without a link to your account.
Getting started and gameplay
What is Omertane?
Omertane is a free real-time strategy game that runs in your browser. You are the Don of a young crime family in a hand-drawn 1930s city: you grow your compound, train troops, recruit Capos, send convoys across a shared map and climb the rankings. The city, the families and the characters are fictional.
Is Omertane really free?
Yes. There is nothing to download and nothing to pay. Gold, the premium currency, is earned by playing. At the moment real-money purchases are not possible: the Buy gold tab of the Black Market is a preview marked Coming soon.
What should I do first?
Take the guided tour, then spend your starting stock on the Villa and the production buildings. Build the Barracks when the Villa reaches level 3 and train your first troops. Send a gathering convoy led by your free Capo, claim the Daily Newspaper rewards, and keep your newcomer shield by not attacking anyone.
How does the tutorial work?
The tour has 5 lessons and 17 steps with a spotlight on the real screen. You can start it, postpone it or skip it, and replay any lesson from the Tutorials button of your own profile in the game. Finishing every lesson unlocks the achievement “Learned the Ropes”: 100 gold, a resource pack of 1,000, a Capo box and a 1-hour construction speeder.
How do I found my family?
Open the game and choose a family name (3 to 10 characters, starting with a letter, unique) and one of 12 crests, then press Enter the city. Your compound is placed automatically on a free plot. If every open sector is full, no plot is free right now and the game tells you so; a new sector opens as the city fills up.
What do I start with?
You start with 500 gold, 2,000 wood, 600 iron and 2,400 cash, a Villa, Lumber mill, Clubhouse, Metallurgy and Wall at level 1, two Capos and a 72-hour newcomer shield. You have no troops yet. The starter inventory has a resource pack of 500, two Forged passports and a set of construction, research and training speeders.
Can I play on my phone, and which browser do I need?
Yes. The interface adapts to phones, with a bottom bar of four main tabs and a More menu. Omertane runs in the browser with no download: use an up-to-date browser so the map, animations and sound work properly.
How do I change or turn off the sound?
Open Game settings from your own profile window: there is a Mute all sound switch and sliders for Master volume, Music and Effects. Browsers block sound until you interact with the page, so tap anywhere if you see the hint to turn sound on.
How does the city grow? What are sectors?
Omertane is one shared city that opens in sectors. A sector is a large square of neighbourhoods. When the open sectors are nearly full, the next one opens automatically. Families that found or move into a freshly opened sector get +25% production for 30 days. Everybody plays in the same city, with the same rules and the same clock.
Does my progress run while I am offline?
Yes. Everything is saved on the server and keeps running: buildings finish, resources pile up (until the depot is full), troops train and convoys drive on their own. When you return after 30 minutes or more, you get an activity report by mail with everything that happened.
What is game time and when does the night bonus apply?
The game has one clock, by default Europe/Bucharest. You can see it in Game settings under Server status. Daily things roll over at 08:00 game time, and night runs from 22:00 to 07:00, when every compound defends with +50%.
Can I move my compound?
Yes. Select a free plot on the map, at most 100 tiles away from your compound (horizontal plus vertical distance), and press Move the compound here. You need one Forged passport (you start with two, the Black Market sells it for 20 gold, one per day), a 24-hour cooldown must have passed, none of your convoys may be away and no attack may be on its way to you. You keep everything you own.
How do I find resource points and rackets on the map?
Use the Search panel: choose Resources or Businesses, filter by type and tier, and tick Free only to hide the occupied ones. Results are sorted by distance and limited to the 40 nearest. You can also type coordinates such as 12|-4 to jump to a place.
How do the rankings work?
The city has four rankings: Power, War, Gathering and Prestige. Each page lists 25 families, up to the top 1,000, and the lists refresh about every 30 seconds. Only players with more than 0 points appear in War, Gathering and Prestige.
What is the Daily Newspaper?
A new edition comes out every day at 08:00 game time, with 4 to 6 missions chosen from 11 stories. Claim each finished mission for resources, sometimes an item or gold. Unclaimed rewards are lost when the next edition comes out. Finishing every story gives a bonus of 3 gold and a Capo box or an 8-hour speeder.
How does the weekly check-in work?
It is a five-day streak with one reward per day. You must press Collect yourself on consecutive calendar days. Missing a day restarts the streak at day 1, and everything resets on Monday at 00:00 game time.
What is the Federal Transit?
Every day from 12:00 to 18:00 game time armoured cash trucks drive through the city. You can intercept one at an intersection where it stops, with a convoy that needs a Capo and a march slot but no ammo. Each family can attack the same truck at most twice, and each attack adds 15% Police Heat. The server spaces the banks and the routes at least 3 neighbourhoods apart, and between 3 and 8 trucks run in each sector every day, each with its own cargo and guard. Every sector has its own Transit, running at the same time as the others; you can only see and intercept the trucks of your own sector.
What is the Neighbourhood Feast?
Every day from 18:00 to 00:00 game time the server starts up to 5 feasts, one per zone of the map (centre, north, south, east and west). The feasts are at least 3 neighbourhoods apart and never the same ones two days in a row. Families of a feasting neighbourhood cannot attack each other and get +15% production. A Grand Depot appears on the plaza and every family of the sector can send a Feast convoy to collect from it. Every sector has its own feasts, at the same time as the other sectors but completely separate: families of another sector cannot take part.
What is the Don’s Jubilee?
Once a year, the first time you enter the game after the anniversary of your account, your compound celebrates for 24 hours. The first 12 hours give a golden shield that attacks cannot cancel, and for the whole 24 hours every building produces 30% more.
What is the Family Scrapbook?
A photo album in the Scrapbook tab of the Don’s villa. The game takes a polaroid by itself the first time you reach each milestone, such as your first racket, Villa levels 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25, or your first raid won. Moments not reached yet show as empty frames.
Where do I claim achievements?
Open the Objectives tab and choose Achievements. There are 29 of them. Press Claim when the target is reached and the reward goes to your gold, inventory or depot. Achievements in a series stay locked until the lower steps are complete.
What are titles, trophies and decorations?
Pure cosmetics: 24 titles, 14 trophies and 14 animated decorations for four slots of your compound (Gate, Roof, Yard and Street). Open Customize from the compound screen. Up to 6 earned trophies can be pinned on your profile. None of them gives any gameplay bonus.
What is the Underground Club?
The back room of the Clubhouse, with roulette (from Clubhouse level 2) and blackjack (from level 5). You play with chips for item prizes and no real money is involved. You get one free chip per day, and extra chips cost 3 gold each, up to 9 purchases per day.
Compound and economy
What are the resources?
Wood, iron and cash are produced continuously by the Lumber mill, Metallurgy and Clubhouse, plus a small base income of wood and cash, and are stored in the depot. Ammo is produced in steps once an hour by the Armory and is spent on attacks. Gold is the premium currency and is kept on your account, not in the depot.
Why did my production stop?
Your storage is full. The Central depot sets one capacity for wood, iron and cash (5,000 each at level 1, growing by 34% per level), and production stops until you spend some. Stock above the capacity, for example from looting, is kept but does not grow further.
Which buildings are there and what do they unlock?
There are 15 buildings, each up to level 25, plus the Black Market, which needs no building. The Villa, Lumber mill, Clubhouse, Metallurgy and Wall start built. The rest unlock with the Villa: Barracks and Central depot at level 3, Armory, Garage, Hospital and Syndicate hall at 4, and Library, Recruitment office, Law firm and Switchboard at 5.
Why can I not upgrade a building?
No building can be higher than the Don’s villa, and many need other buildings at a certain level. The upgrade window lists every requirement with your current level, and clicking an unmet one takes you to that building. Other reasons are a full queue, not enough resources or an upgrade already queued. The Villa also waits for the others: to raise it to level N, every unlocked building must be at level N−1 or more (the Law firm and the Garage at N−5, the Syndicate hall is never required), the Switchboard included.
How does the construction queue work?
One building goes up at a time. You start with one queue place; a second one lets you line up another order that waits for the running one and starts by itself. Extra places never build in parallel, they only line up the next order. Orders are paid in full when you place them and keep running while you are offline. Only the running order can be sped up. Training and research have their own queues (1 to 3 places each); the Barracks and the Garage share the same training queue.
How do I get a second construction queue place?
Buy it once for 500 gold, permanently, from the Upgrades tab of the Black Market, from the Active operations panel or from a building’s upgrade section when the queue is full. It does not build two things at once: it lets you line up one more building behind the running one.
Can I cancel an order?
No. Once placed, the order runs to the end and its cost is spent. Speed-up items can shorten it. This holds for every order, healing included.
How do speeders work?
Every running construction, research or training order has a Speed up button. Pick a speeder from your inventory and its time is removed from the order. Construction speeders work on construction, research speeders on research, and training speeders on training and healing. The window recommends the best one and warns you if its time is longer than what is left.
What is the safehouse?
A hidden vault in the Central depot that protects a share of your wood, iron and cash from raiders: 10% at depot level 1 plus 2% per further level, up to 50%. Only the unprotected part can be looted. Gold and ammo can never be taken.
What are rackets and how do they pay?
Each neighbourhood has 9 rackets run by a local gang, levels 1 to 5. A family can hold only one racket at a time. If you win, your surviving troops stay inside for 2 hours and the racket pays cash, wood and iron every minute, plus a one-off prize and Capo experience and fragments. When the time runs out the troops come home.
How do resource points work?
Each neighbourhood has 15 resource points: 5 wood, 5 iron and 5 cash, levels 1 to 5. A gathering convoy collects 25 units per minute per level, only one convoy can work a point at a time and the reserve is shared by everyone. When a point is emptied, a new one appears in the same neighbourhood 5 minutes later.
How do I earn and spend gold?
You earn gold from Daily Newspaper missions, achievements, Club prizes and surplus Capo fragments. You spend it on permanent upgrades (a second construction, research or training queue place, 500 gold each), on a syndicate, on Club chips and in the Black Market.
How does the Black Market work?
Open it from the compound or by clicking your gold. Items cost gold, and some cheaper ones can be bought with cash. Each item has a daily limit per player that renews at 08:00 game time. Purchases land in your Inventory and nothing is used automatically.
How does research work?
Research is done in the Library. One research runs at a time. You can buy one extra queue place for 500 gold to line up a second research, which starts by itself when the first one finishes. The Library level caps research levels, and unlocking troop tiers T2 to T5 needs research too.
Army and combat
Which troops exist?
There are four classes with five tiers each, 20 units in total. Brawlers (Barracks level 1), Gunmen (level 3) and Machine gunners (level 5) are trained in the Barracks. Armoured vehicles are assembled in the Garage. Troops have no upkeep: you pay only once, when you train them.
How does training work?
An order can train at most 10 × your Barracks level troops (5 × Garage level vehicles). Each Barracks level makes training 2% faster. One order trains at a time, troops and vehicles together: the Barracks and the Garage share one training queue. You can buy one extra queue place for 500 gold to line up a second order that starts by itself. Higher tiers need Barracks level 5, 8, 12 and 16 for T2 to T5, plus research.
Which troop class beats which?
Gunmen counter Brawlers, Machine gunners counter Brawlers and Armoured vehicles, and Armoured vehicles counter Gunmen. A counter gives up to +50% attack, scaled by how much of the enemy army belongs to the countered class.
What are Capos and why do I need them?
Capos are your lieutenants. No convoy can leave without at least one, and a second one is optional. A Capo sets how many troops a convoy can carry, adds talents and an ability, and can guard the Wall instead. There are 24 of them in four rarities, and you start with two common Capos.
How do I get more Capos?
Recruit them with cash in the Recruitment office (500 common, 1,500 rare, 3,000 epic, candidates change every hour), collect fragments from racket wins, Capo boxes, the Black Market, the Club and Federal Transit chests. A complete set of fragments unlocks the Capo by itself. There is no limit on how many Capos you can own, and a Capo is never lost.
How many convoys can I send at once?
As many as you have march slots: 1 at Villa levels 1 to 7, 2 at 8 to 13, 3 at 14 to 19 and 4 at 20 to 25, which is the maximum. The Communications research can bring the next slot earlier, but never above 4. A convoy keeps its slot until it is home, and it travels at the speed of its slowest unit.
Who can I attack?
Any compound that has no shield, is not in your syndicate, has no Tribute Pact with you and is not covered by a Street Feast truce in a shared neighbourhood. There is no level or power restriction. You need a free slot, a Capo, troops and ammo (1 per 5 troops sent), and you must not be under a police lockdown.
How is a fight decided?
The server resolves it instantly with public formulas. The attacker wins only if its attack is strictly higher than the defence, and luck moves the attack by at most ±15%. The loser loses all the troops that took part, and the winner loses a share that depends on how close the fight was, never more than 90%.
What can an attacker steal?
Only part of the unprotected wood, iron and cash, limited by what the surviving troops can carry. Gold, ammo and the safehouse share are safe. A compound can never be destroyed, conquered or removed from the map.
What happens to the troops I lose?
Of the troops lost in a fight, 40% die, 40% are wounded and 20% survive. Wounded troops wait in the Hospital to be healed, but only as many as there are free beds are kept: the rest die. Without a Hospital nobody can be wounded.
How do shields work?
A shielded compound cannot be attacked or spied on. Newcomers get 72 hours. You can add 8-hour, 1-day, 3-day or 7-day shield items, and the total can never exceed 7 days. Launching an attack on a compound drops your own shield at once, unless you recall within the first 60 seconds. A rare 5-day shield protects a family hit 5 times in a row with almost nothing left to steal.
How can I defend my compound?
Keep troops at home, raise the Wall, put up to two Capos on the Wall, build the Switchboard for earlier warnings (from level 20 its federal wiretap also warns you of a raid), keep resources in the safehouse and join a syndicate that can send reinforcements. Defence also gets +50% at night, and a Defence booster adds +20% for 4 hours.
What is Police Heat?
A gauge from 0% to 100% that grows when you attack outside your walls. From 25% your convoys get slower, from 50% attacks cost more ammo, and at 100% a state of siege starts: offensive convoys are blocked and a federal raid hits your compound after 15 minutes. Heat cools by 2% per hour, and the Law firm adds bribes and faster cooling.
What is the federal raid and how do I see it coming?
At 100% Heat the compound goes under siege and federal agents storm the Wall after 15 minutes. On the compound screen you see your defenders face the police at the gate. If your defence holds, Heat drops to 30%. If it fails, you pay a fine of 25% of your unprotected resources (10% with a Law firm) and Heat drops to 50%. With a level 20 Switchboard the federal wiretap warns you by mail when Heat reaches 90%, and the Switchboard window shows the expected raid force, in agents and power, so you can put Capos on the Wall in time.
What are Respect and Terror?
One scale from -100 (Terror) to +100 (Respect). Gathering, reinforcing allies, bribes and calm raise it, and attacking, night raids and heavy losses inflicted lower it. Respect gives more production and faster healing, and Terror gives attack bonuses for Gunmen and Machine gunners. Attacks on someone in your Vendetta Ledger do not move it.
What is the Vendetta Ledger?
When another family attacks your compound or a racket you hold, its name is written in your ledger for 7 days. While it is active, your attacks on that family cost 30% less ammo, get +10% attack, earn double war points and add half the Heat. Striking the name earns cash, 2 gold and prestige.
How does spying work?
Build the Switchboard and send a spy to a rival family from the map. A spy is free, and you cannot spy on a shielded compound or a syndicate mate. You get 1 spy at Switchboard level 1, 2 at level 10 and 3 at level 20, each with a name of their own. The chance of success is 90% minus 2% per level of the target’s Switchboard plus 1% per level of yours, between 35% and 95%. A caught spy is lost and the target is told who sent it.
What is a Tribute Pact?
A way for a raided family to buy peace. The victim can propose it to an aggressor in the same neighbourhood that is at least 1.5 times as powerful and attacked more than 3 times in 7 days. If accepted, it lasts 24 hours: the victim pays 5% of its production every half hour and the aggressor cannot attack it.
Syndicates
What is a syndicate?
A player-run alliance inside the city, for up to 50 families. Members can never attack or spy on each other, can send reinforcements that defend a mate’s compound, and share a private chat, an announcement board and an activity feed. You can be in only one syndicate at a time.
Why can I not found or join a syndicate?
You need the Syndicate hall, which unlocks at Villa level 4. Without it you cannot create, join, apply to a syndicate or accept an invitation. You can still receive invitations and stay in a syndicate you are already in.
How do I found a syndicate?
It costs 1,000 gold, paid once. Choose a name of 3 to 30 characters and a tag of exactly 3 letters or digits. Both must be unique in the city and can never be changed afterwards, not even by the Don. You become the Don of the syndicate.
How do I join a syndicate?
There are three ways: join directly if the syndicate is open, send a join request if it is by request, or accept an invitation from its Don. Newcomers start as Soldier (R1). Open or request-only syndicates can set a minimum power, which blocks direct joining and applying but not invitations.
Which ranks are there?
Don (exactly 1), Consigliere (at most 1), Underboss (at most 3), Capo (R2) and Soldier (R1). Only the Don can invite, remove members, set ranks and settings, and handle diplomacy, while the Don and the Consigliere post announcements and answer join requests. The syndicate rank Capo is not the same as the lieutenants who lead convoys.
Is there a global chat?
No. The only chat is the private chat of each syndicate. Messages can be 1 to 500 characters, one every 5 seconds, and links, web addresses, email addresses and IP addresses are replaced by “[link removed]”. Players cannot send private messages to each other.
How do reinforcements work?
Select a syndicate mate’s compound on the map and send troops. They cost no ammo and add no Heat, stay in the host’s compound and defend it together with the host’s own troops. Both the host and the sender can send them home instantly. A higher Syndicate hall level means bigger and faster reinforcement convoys.
What happens when I leave a syndicate?
You can leave at any time, at no cost and with no waiting period. Troops you stationed at former mates and troops they stationed with you go straight home. If the Don leaves, leadership passes to the highest-ranking remaining member, and a syndicate with nobody left dissolves.
What does diplomacy do?
Only the Don handles it. An alliance needs the other Don to accept it, while a rivalry takes effect at once. It is informational and does not allow or block attacks: it only colours the map, with allies in green and rivals in red.
Technical and privacy
Which cookies does Omertane use?
Only strictly necessary ones: the sign-in session cookie, a memory of your cookie notice choice and a few small interface settings in your browser. There is no advertising, no analytics and no third-party content. The full list is in the Cookie settings window, which the Cookie settings link in the footer opens at any time. There you can also choose your categories and withdraw consent.
What data do you collect?
Your email, username and a hashed password, your game progress, your active play time (visible only to you) and technical logs. We do not ask for your real name, address, phone number or payment details. The Privacy Policy explains why, who sees it and how long it is kept.
How do I get a copy of my data or have it deleted?
You can change your email, password and avatar and delete your account yourself in Settings. For access or portability requests, write to the contact email from the address of your account, or open a support ticket. We answer within one month.
I found a bug. How do I report it?
Open a support ticket in the Bug category and tell us what you did, what you expected and what happened, plus your browser and device. Please do not exploit bugs: the Terms forbid it.
The game is slow or disconnected. What can I do?
Open Game settings and check Server status: latency under 150 ms is good, under 400 ms is fair, and above that it is slow. Real-time updates should show as connected. Reload the page and check your connection. If the whole game is slow or unreachable, the server status page shows whether a service is down or an incident is open. If everything is green and the problem stays, open a support ticket.
The game will not load or the server seems down. What now?
Open the server status page first: it shows, live, whether the platform, the live updates and the timed jobs are running, whether an incident or planned maintenance is open. If it reports a problem, no ticket is needed: we are already on it and the page updates by itself. If everything is green, try another browser or network, then open a support ticket in the Bug category.
How do I report a player?
Open a support ticket in the Report category with the player’s username or family name and what happened. Harassment, hateful or illegal content in names, chats or avatars, bots and multi-accounting against the rules can lead to a warning, content removal or suspension.
What happens if I break the rules, and how do I appeal?
The team can send a warning, mute you (you cannot write to other players, for up to 24 hours when a Game Moderator applies it), suspend your account for a set time or ban it for good. Game Moderators suspend for up to 1 hour, while longer suspensions and permanent bans are decided by Game Administrators and the Community Manager. You are told the reason and the end date, and a suspended account that tries to sign in sees them too. To appeal, open a support ticket in the Ban appeal category within 30 days; a later appeal is not refused automatically, staff may still review it.
Can I buy gold or anything else with real money?
No. At the moment real-money purchases are not possible. The Buy gold tab of the Black Market is a preview marked Coming soon, and no payment can be made. If purchases ever appear, the Terms will be updated first.
