Rules and code of conduct

War between families is the game. Cheating and abuse are not. These rules say what we expect from every player, how to report a problem and what happens when the rules are broken.

Last updated: 1 November 2026

About these Rules

These Rules are part of the Terms of Service. By creating an account or playing, you accept both. They apply everywhere in Omertane: the game, the chats, names, avatars, syndicate pages, support tickets and this website.

Attacks, raids, vendettas and rivalry between families are part of the game. Nothing here limits them.

Fair play

  • 2.1One account per person. Do not create or use extra accounts to help yourself, farm resources, dodge attacks or bypass limits.
  • 2.2Accounts are personal. Do not share, lend, buy, sell or trade accounts.
  • 2.3No bots, scripts, macros or any other automation beyond the tools the game itself gives you.
  • 2.4Do not exploit bugs. If you find one, stop using it and report it through Support in the category “Bug or technical problem”. Using a bug first and reporting it later does not excuse it.
  • 2.5No real-money trading: do not buy or sell gold, items, resources or progress for money, or for anything outside the game.
  • 2.6Do not attack, overload or probe our servers, other players or other accounts, and do not bypass the protections of the service.

Agreements between different players, such as a syndicate, an alliance or a non-aggression pact, are part of the game and are allowed.

Respect

  • 3.1No harassment, hate speech, discrimination or threats against any player.
  • 3.2No doxxing: never post or ask for private information about another person.
  • 3.3No spam and no advertising of other services in chats, names, announcements or messages.
  • 3.4Do not impersonate staff or other players, and do not use names that mislead others.
  • 3.5Usernames, family names, avatars, syndicate names, tags, crests, announcements and chat messages follow all of these rules. No hateful, sexual, illegal or private content.
  • 3.6In-game war and rivalry are part of the game. Personal abuse is not: attack the family, not the person.

Accounts

  • 4.1You are responsible for your account and everything done through it. Keep your password secret and do not reuse one from another service.
  • 4.2The team will never ask for your password, in the game, in a ticket or by email. Never write it in a ticket or in a chat.
  • 4.3If you think someone else has used your account, change your password in Settings and tell us through Support in the category “Account and sign-in”.

Reporting

To report a player or a bug, open a ticket on the Support page and choose “Report a player” or “Bug or technical problem”.

  • 5.1Give the username or family name, roughly when it happened and what happened.
  • 5.2Add what you did and saw if it is a bug, and never include your password.
  • 5.3The team reviews every report. We may not tell you what we decided about another player.
  • 5.4Do not name and shame players in chats, syndicate announcements or elsewhere. Report them instead.
  • 5.5Reports made in bad faith, or made to harm another player, are abuse and are treated as a breach of these Rules.

The moderation team

The rules are enforced by the Omertane team. Team members play under their own account and carry a small glowing logo badge next to their name: GM (Game Moderator, gold), GA (Game Administrator, blue) or CM (Community Manager, red, with a crown). You see the badge on profiles, in syndicate chat, in member lists, in rankings and next to the replies you get in Support.

  • 6.1Game Moderators answer support tickets, send warnings, mute players for up to 24 hours and suspend an account for up to 1 hour.
  • 6.2Game Administrators also apply longer suspensions and permanent bans, decide on appeals, handle complaints about the team and publish game announcements.
  • 6.3The Community Manager runs the game and the website and can do everything the other roles can.
  • 6.4Nobody on the team can act against themselves or against someone of the same or a higher rank. Every action a team member takes is recorded.
  • 6.5By default, team accounts are left out of the rankings and cannot become neighbourhood master, so the team never competes with you for a place.

Enforcement

The team decides by how serious the breach is and by the history of the account. The usual steps, in order, are:

  • 7.1a warning, sent to you as an in-game mail;
  • 7.2a mute, which stops you writing to other players (syndicate chat, announcements, invitations) for a set time;
  • 7.3removing or renaming content, such as a name, avatar, announcement or message, and taking back items, gold, resources or advantages obtained unfairly;
  • 7.4a temporary suspension of the account;
  • 7.5a permanent ban, with the account closed for good.

Serious cases, such as cheating, automation, account trading or threats, can skip steps and go straight to a suspension or a ban.

You are told about every warning, mute and suspension, with the reason and how long it lasts. When a suspended account tries to sign in, it sees a message with the reason, the end date and a link to appeal. If you think a decision was wrong, you can appeal through Support, category “Ban appeal”, within 30 days of it, with the reference of your case or ticket. An appeal sent after those 30 days is not refused automatically: staff may still review it. A Game Administrator or the Community Manager reviews the appeal and answers you; if it is accepted, the suspension is lifted. If you have a complaint about a team member, use the category “Complaint about the team”: only Game Administrators and the Community Manager can read it. Where the law gives you more rights, those rights remain.
